Aika Minamisawa is an English-to-Japanese translator whose work spans economics, social issues, philosophy, psychology, and business. She graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Osaka Prefecture University and the Faculty of Letters at Keio University. Examining how monetary values are assigned to human lives, Howard Steven Friedman’s “Ultimate Price: The Value We Place on Life” appeared in her Japanese translation as “Inochi ni ‘Kakaku’ o Tsukerareru no ka.” The book explores compensation for victims of terrorism and accidents, life insurance, healthcare, and environmental regulation, questioning the assumptions and inequalities embedded in these calculations. Investigating digital life through Nietzsche’s philosophy, Nolen Gertz’s “Nihilism and Technology” was translated by Minamisawa as “Nihilism to Technology.” It considers how social media, streaming platforms, and other digital services connect with human desires and everyday behavior, using nihilism as a framework for examining our relationship with technology. Explaining how to learn by analyzing outstanding achievements, Ron Friedman’s “Decoding Greatness: How the Best in the World Reverse Engineer Success” appeared in her translation as “Reverse Shiko.” Drawing on examples from creative work, business, and other fields, the book shows how identifying underlying structures and processes can help readers develop their own ideas and skills.
