北山 修（きたやま おさむ、1946年生まれ）は、日本の精神科医、精神分析家、作詞家。京都府生まれ。京都府立医科大学卒業後、英国ロンドン大学精神医学研究所（Institute of Psychiatry）で精神分析を学んだ。九州大学教授、国際日本文化研究センター教授などを歴任し、日本精神分析協会会長も務めた。専門は精神分析学、臨床精神医学、コミュニケーション論で、心の成長や喪失、癒やし、人間関係をテーマとする研究と臨床活動を続けている。一方、1960年代にはフォークグループ「ザ・フォーク・クルセダーズ」のメンバーとして活動し、「帰って来たヨッパライ」「悲しくてやりきれない」「あの素晴しい愛をもう一度」など数多くの名曲の作詞を手がけたことでも広く知られる。精神医学と音楽・文化の両分野で大きな足跡を残した日本を代表する知識人の一人である。代表的な著書に『最後の授業』『劇的な精神分析入門』『悲しみの力』『見るなの禁止』『フロイトと日本人』などがある。
Osamu Kitayama (born 1946) is a Japanese psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, lyricist, and author. Born in Kyoto, he graduated from Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine and later studied psychoanalysis at the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London. He has served as Professor at Kyushu University, Professor at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies, and President of the Japan Psychoanalytic Society. His work focuses on psychoanalysis, clinical psychiatry, communication, grief, and human relationships, and he has played a leading role in advancing psychoanalytic thought in Japan. Alongside his academic career, Kitayama achieved nationwide recognition in the late 1960s as a member of the folk group The Folk Crusaders, writing the lyrics for classic Japanese songs such as "Kaette Kita Yopparai," "Kanashikute Yarikirenai," and "Ano Subarashii Ai wo Mou Ichido." Widely respected for his contributions to both psychiatry and popular culture, his notable books include The Last Lecture, A Dramatic Introduction to Psychoanalysis, The Power of Grief, The Forbidden Gaze, and Freud and the Japanese.
