木下順二(きのした・じゅんじ、1914–2006)は、日本の劇作家、評論家、翻訳家。東京帝国大学文学部英文科卒業、同大学院修了。日本の民話や歴史を題材にした戯曲によって戦後演劇を代表する劇作家となり、詩情豊かな民話劇から社会性の強い歴史劇まで幅広い作品を発表した。代表作『夕鶴』は戦後日本演劇を象徴する名作として国内外で繰り返し上演されている。また、シェイクスピア研究・翻訳の第一人者としても知られ、日本語による演劇表現の確立に大きく貢献した。『風浪』で岸田演劇賞、『夕鶴』で毎日演劇賞、『子午線の祀り』で読売文学賞を受賞。著書に『夕鶴』『彦市ばなし』『沖縄』『神と人とのあいだ』『子午線の祀り』などがある。

Junji Kinoshita (1914–2006) was a Japanese playwright, critic, and translator, widely regarded as the foremost dramatist of postwar Japan. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he devoted his career to creating plays inspired by Japanese folktales, history, and contemporary society. His masterpiece "Twilight Crane" (Yūzuru) became one of the defining works of modern Japanese theater and has been performed extensively in Japan and abroad. Equally renowned as a Shakespeare scholar and translator, Kinoshita played a pivotal role in developing modern Japanese theatrical language through both his original plays and his translations. He received the Kishida Drama Award for "Fūrō", the Mainichi Theatre Award for "Twilight Crane", and the Yomiuri Prize for Literature for "Shigosen no Matsuri" (The Festival at the Meridian). His other notable works include "Hikoichi Banashi", "Okinawa", "Between God and Man", and "The Festival at the Meridian."
