Shiho Kido is a Japanese manga artist. The one-shot version of “Dokudami no Hanasaku Koro” won the Grand Prize in the Autumn 2022 Afternoon Four Seasons Awards and was subsequently developed into a series for “Monthly Afternoon.” Her representative work, officially published in English as “When the Chameleon Flowers Bloom,” ranked third in the male readers’ division of “Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2025,” placed fifth in the 2025 Manga Taisho, and received the New Creator Prize at the 29th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. Set in a rural elementary school, it portrays the uneasy, not-quite friendship between Daigo Shigaraki, an unpredictable boy isolated by his classmates, and model student Shiro Shimizu, who becomes fascinated by Shigaraki’s strangely inventive artwork.
