Carol Anderson is an American historian and the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of African American Studies at Emory University. Her research examines race, public policy, and the history of civil and human rights. In "White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide," Anderson traces how advances by Black Americans have repeatedly been followed by laws and policies designed to restrict those gains. Moving from Reconstruction and Jim Crow through resistance to school desegregation and modern barriers to voting, she presents racism not only as open hostility but also as a political reaction carried out through administrative, legislative, and judicial institutions. The book received the 2016 National Book Critics Circle Award for Criticism.
