Kenan Orhan is a Turkish American fiction writer who received his MFA from Emerson College. His stories have appeared in The Atlantic, The Paris Review, and other publications and have been anthologized in The O. Henry Prize Stories and The Best American Short Stories. His debut collection, "I Am My Country and Other Stories," was a finalist for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize. His fiction frequently explores Turkish history, political repression, migration, and exile through surrealism, magical realism, and dark humor. His first novel, "The Renovation," was longlisted for the 2026 Booker Prize. It follows Dilara, a Turkish exile living in Italy, who renovates a bathroom in her apartment only to discover that the builders have inexplicably constructed a Turkish prison cell in its place. Through this impossible intrusion into her home, the novel explores how memories of Istanbul, political trauma, family loss, and exile continue to shape a life lived far from one's homeland.
