Ken Kalfus (1954–) is an American novelist and short-story writer. Born in New York, he has lived in Paris, Dublin, Belgrade, and Moscow. His collection “Pu-239 and Other Russian Fantasies,” which includes stories set in the former Soviet Union, was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award. “A Disorder Peculiar to the Country,” juxtaposing the aftermath of the September 11 attacks with a married couple’s bitter divorce, was a finalist for the National Book Award. His fiction uses black humor and satire to examine the points at which history, science, and political upheaval intrude upon private life.
