Kate Summerscale（ケイト・サマースケイル、1965年生まれ）は、イギリスのノンフィクション作家、ジャーナリスト。University of Oxfordで英文学を学び、新聞記者を経て作家となった。犯罪史やヴィクトリア朝英国の社会史を題材に、綿密な史料調査と文学的な筆致を融合させた作品で高い評価を受けている。2008年には"The Suspicions of Mr Whicher"でSamuel Johnson Prize（現Baillie Gifford Prize）を受賞。同作はヴィクトリア朝の殺人事件を通して近代刑事捜査の誕生を描いた代表作として知られる。著書に"The Queen of Whale Cay"、"Mrs Robinson's Disgrace"、"The Haunting of Alma Fielding"、"The Peepshow"などがある。
Kate Summerscale (born 1965) is a British nonfiction writer and journalist renowned for her narrative histories of crime and Victorian Britain. After studying English at the University of Oxford and working as a journalist, she established herself as one of the leading practitioners of literary nonfiction. Her books combine meticulous archival research with compelling storytelling, exploring murder, justice, psychology, and the social history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Britain. Her bestselling "The Suspicions of Mr Whicher" won the Samuel Johnson Prize in 2008 and is widely regarded as a landmark work of historical true crime. Her other notable books include "The Queen of Whale Cay," "Mrs Robinson's Disgrace," "The Haunting of Alma Fielding," and "The Peepshow: The Murders at 10 Rillington Place."
