Gary J. Bass (born 1971) is an American political scientist and historian, and a professor at Princeton University. His research focuses on international relations, international law, human rights, and the history of war and diplomacy. Known for combining rigorous archival research with compelling narrative, he has written extensively on humanitarian intervention, state violence, and the moral dilemmas of foreign policy. His best-known book, "Judgment at Tokyo: World War II on Trial and the Making of Modern Asia," is a comprehensive history of the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal and its lasting impact on international justice and the postwar order.
