Jun Ikeido (born 1963) is a Japanese novelist from Gifu Prefecture. Drawing on his experience in banking, he writes about people confronting misconduct, institutional pressure, and conflicting loyalties in the workplace. He made his literary debut in 1998 with “Hatsuru Soko Naki,” a mystery in which a bank employee’s death exposes suspicious lending practices, winning the Edogawa Rampo Award. His 2011 Naoki Prize–winning novel “Shitamachi Rocket” follows the owner and engineers of a small manufacturer as they pursue rocket-component development amid financial difficulties and negotiations with a major corporation. The “Hanzawa Naoki” series, beginning with “Oretachi Bubble Nyukogumi,” follows a banker resisting factional struggles and blame-shifting within his organization, bringing loyalty to an employer into conflict with personal and professional convictions.
