Rin Ishigaki (1920–2004) was a Japanese poet. She began working at the Industrial Bank of Japan at the age of fourteen and supported her family while remaining employed there for about four decades, writing poetry alongside her work. Through everyday objects such as cooking pots, laundry, and nameplates, she wrote in clear and incisive language about labor, poverty, war, family life, and women’s independence. Her representative collection “Hyōsatsu nado” received the H Prize. In “Shi no Naka no Fūkei: Kurashi no Naka ni Yomigaeru,” she selects poems by fifty-three poets and accompanies them with essays connecting poetry—what she called practical language—with memories of everyday life.
