Eisaku Ide (born 1972) is a Japanese economist and Professor of Economics at Keio University. After completing his doctoral studies at the University of Tokyo, he served at the Bank of Japan's Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies, Tohoku Gakuin University, and Yokohama National University before joining Keio University. Specializing in fiscal sociology, he studies taxation, public finance, and social welfare from historical and institutional perspectives. He is widely known for advocating a vision of public finance centered on social solidarity and shared well-being rather than fiscal efficiency alone. His best-known book, "Basic Services: Toward a Society with No Anxiety Even Without Savings," argues that universal access to essential public services—including education, healthcare, long-term care, and housing—offers a sustainable foundation for a more equitable society.
