Lee Yeonsil is a South Korean publishing editor and author. Drawing on her experience working on numerous essay and nonfiction books, she wrote “How to Make an Essay Book: Trade Secrets from a Korean Bestseller Editor” (original Korean title: “에세이 만드는 법”). The book offers a practical account of how essays are brought into the world as books, covering titles, cover copy, design, sales, and the editorial responsibility to preserve an author’s personal memories and wounds. Rather than treating editing as a matter of simply polishing prose, Lee presents it as the work of discovering the story that only a particular writer can tell and building a path for that story to reach readers.
