Intan Paramaditha is an Indonesian novelist and scholar whose work explores feminism, migration, class, and colonialism through horror, folklore, and speculative fiction. She holds a doctorate in cinema studies from New York University and teaches media and film studies at Macquarie University in Australia. Her interactive novel “The Wandering,” in which readers choose the route taken by an Indonesian woman who receives a pair of magical red shoes from the devil, examines mobility, borders, and the unequal privilege of travel. “Night of a Thousand Hells” begins when the youngest of three sisters becomes a suicide bomber and follows the aftermath across Indonesia, the United States, and Australia, interweaving family memory, political violence, Indonesian folklore, and Islamic mysticism. Stephen Epstein and Tiffany Tsao’s English translation was longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Translated Literature.
