イアン・久米川（Ian Kumekawa） アメリカの歴史学者。日系アメリカ人。経済思想史、資本主義史、帝国史を専門とし、ハーバード大学歴史経済センターおよびマサチューセッツ工科大学（MIT）で教鞭を執ってきた。福祉経済学者アーサー・セシル・ピグーの思想を再評価した研究で知られ、初の著書『The First Serious Optimist』（未邦訳）は、経済学史分野のジョセフ・J・スペングラー賞を受賞した。代表作『あるコンテナ船の物語 資本はいかに世界をめぐるか』（原題: "Empty Vessel: The Story of the Global Economy in One Barge"）は、一隻の船の数奇な来歴をたどりながら、グローバル化、オフショア経済、物流、資本主義の変容を描いたミクロヒストリーである。現代の世界経済を具体的なモノの移動から読み解く独創的な視点で注目を集めている。
Ian Kumekawa is an American historian specializing in the history of capitalism, economic thought, and empire. A Japanese American scholar, he has taught at Harvard University's Center for History and Economics and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His first book, "The First Serious Optimist" (2017), a study of economist A. C. Pigou and the origins of welfare economics, received the Joseph J. Spengler Prize. His best-known book, "Empty Vessel: The Story of the Global Economy in One Barge," follows the remarkable life of a single barge to illuminate the evolution of globalization, offshore capitalism, and maritime logistics. Blending microhistory with global economic history, it offers a vivid new perspective on the infrastructure and forces shaping the modern world.
