Iain Pears (born 1955) is a British novelist and art historian. After studying at the University of Oxford and working as a journalist and art historian, he established himself as a writer of historical mysteries and intellectual thrillers. His best-known novel, "An Instance of the Fingerpost," reconstructs a murder investigation in seventeenth-century England through the conflicting testimonies of four narrators, exploring the nature of truth, memory, and historical interpretation.
