岩田 宏（いわた ひろし、1932–2014年）は、詩、小説、評論を執筆し、ロシア語や英語の文学を訳した詩人、翻訳家、評論家。本名の小笠原 豊樹を翻訳や評論で用いた。ウラジーミル・マヤコフスキーの詩や戯曲を長年翻訳し、詩人の作品と生涯の研究を続けた。小笠原名義の『マヤコフスキー事件』では、自殺として知られてきた詩人の死を資料から検討し、ソ連の政治や文化の状況と結びつけて論じた。同書で2014年に第65回読売文学賞の評論・伝記賞を受賞した。レイ・ブラッドベリの『火星年代記』（原題 “The Martian Chronicles”）では、地球人の火星進出を連作の物語として描く小説を翻訳した。また、『太陽の黄金の林檎』（原題 “The Golden Apples of the Sun”）では、日常と幻想、宇宙や技術を題材に、人間の期待や恐れを描く短篇群を日本語にした。
Hiroshi Iwata (1932–2014) was a Japanese poet, translator, and critic who also wrote fiction. He used his birth name, Toyoki Ogasawara, for translations and literary criticism. His long engagement with Vladimir Mayakovsky included translating poetry and drama and researching the poet’s life. His Japanese-language “Mayakovsky Jiken” investigated documentary evidence surrounding Mayakovsky’s death and its Soviet political and cultural setting. It received the criticism and biography award at the sixty-fifth Yomiuri Literary Prizes in 2014. He also translated Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles,” a sequence of interconnected stories about humans travelling to Mars, and “The Golden Apples of the Sun,” a collection exploring ordinary life, fantasy, space, and technology.
