Bunyo Ishikawa (1938–2026) was a Japanese photojournalist best known for documenting the Vietnam War. Born in Shuri, Naha, Okinawa, he lived in Saigon from 1965 to 1968 and accompanied American and South Vietnamese forces while photographing both combat and civilian life. He worked for the Asahi Shimbun from 1969 to 1984 and subsequently continued as a freelance photographer, covering conflicts, natural disasters, American military bases in Okinawa, and the everyday lives of people affected by them. He received the Photographic Society of Japan’s Annual Award in 1973 and a special award from the Japan Congress of Journalists in 1990. Photographs from his coverage of the war were donated to the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City and placed on permanent display. In his representative volume, "Shashin Kiroku Betonamu Sensō," Ishikawa recorded not only soldiers in combat but also civilians who lost relatives and homes to bombing, communities sustaining daily life amid the fighting, and Vietnam after the war.
