Takayuki Igarashi (born 1975) is a Japanese scholar of security studies and international relations history from Kanagawa Prefecture. He is an associate professor in the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Mejiro University. After completing the doctoral program at the National Defense Academy’s Graduate School of Security Studies, he earned a PhD in security studies. He previously served as an associate professor at the National Defense Academy and as a specialist researcher at the National Institute for Defense Studies. His research focuses on cross-strait relations, security in the Taiwan Strait, and the military strategy of the Republic of China. His award-winning study “Tairiku Hanko to Taiwan: Chuka Minkoku ni Yoru Toitsu no Koso to Zasetsu” examines Taiwan’s plans to retake mainland China. In his representative work, “Taiwan Yuji: Rekishi, Gunji, Antei no Mekanizumu,” Igarashi moves beyond the simple question of whether China will invade Taiwan, analyzing military capabilities, deterrence, crisis management, US involvement, Taiwan’s defenses, and the role of Japan and the international community.
