(The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil)では、個人の性格だけでなく、置かれた状況や制度が残虐な行動を生み出す過程を論じた。
Philip Zimbardo (1933–2024) was an American social psychologist and professor at Stanford University. He studied how situations, power, and assigned social roles influence human behavior. He became widely known for the 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment, although the study has been strongly criticized for its ethics, methodology, and Zimbardo’s own involvement. In The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil, he examined how destructive behavior can arise not only from individual character but also from the situations and institutions in which people act.
