Philip Gourevitch is a journalist investigating political violence and its aftermath. He worked as a New Yorker staff writer and editor of The Paris Review. We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families examined the 1994 Rwandan genocide through survivors' accounts, connecting the politics of killing with the experience of continuing to live together afterward. It won the National Book Critics Circle Award. A Cold Case followed a New York detective investigating an old murder, tracing the relationship between memory, investigation and justice. With Errol Morris, Gourevitch wrote Standard Operating Procedure, examining photographs and testimony from Abu Ghraib to investigate actions, evidence and responsibility for abuse.
