Julián Delgado Lopera is a Colombian-born writer, performer, and oral historian from Bogotá. They moved to the United States with their family at age fifteen and write across English and Spanish about migration, family, religion, gender, and queer community. “¡Cuéntamelo!,” a bilingual illustrated collection of oral histories from LGBTQ+ Latinx immigrants in San Francisco, received a Lambda Literary Award. Their novel “Fiebre Tropical” follows a fifteen-year-old girl who moves from Bogotá to Miami and searches for a place of her own between her mother’s evangelical church and her first queer love. It won both the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction and the Ferro-Grumley Award. Set in 1990s Bogotá, “Pretend You’re Dead and I Carry You” connects a teenage girl’s grief after her mother’s death with her father’s suppressed queer history and the city’s underground queer community.
