フアン・ガブリエル・バスケス（Juan Gabriel Vásquez、1973年 - ）は、コロンビアの小説家、エッセイスト。ボゴタ生まれ。コロンビアの政治的暴力や麻薬戦争、歴史と個人の記憶の結びつきを題材にした作品で知られる。『物が落ちる音』（原題 El ruido de las cosas al caer）で2011年アルファグアラ賞、2014年国際ダブリン文学賞を受賞。同作は、麻薬戦争の記憶が残るボゴタを舞台に、銃撃事件に巻き込まれた大学講師が、殺された元パイロットの過去をたどる物語で、麻薬取引による暴力と恐怖が一世代の人々の家庭や人生に残した傷を描いている。
Juan Gabriel Vásquez (born 1973) is a Colombian novelist and essayist from Bogotá. His fiction often explores Colombia’s political violence, the drug wars, and the ways history becomes intertwined with individual memory. His novel "The Sound of Things Falling" ("El ruido de las cosas al caer") won the 2011 Alfaguara Prize and the 2014 International Dublin Literary Award. Set in Bogotá in the aftermath of the drug wars, the novel follows a university lecturer caught in a shooting who begins investigating the past of the former pilot killed beside him, tracing how decades of violence and fear shaped the private lives of a generation of Colombians.
