(When the Rivers Run Dry)では、河川や地下水をめぐる危機を各地の事例から追っている。
Fred Pearce is a British environmental journalist whose reporting has taken him around the world to examine climate change, water resources, ecosystems, and land use. He has written for New Scientist, The Guardian, and Yale Environment 360. In “When the Rivers Run Dry” (『水の未来 世界の川が干上がるとき』), he investigates pressures on rivers and groundwater through cases from different regions. 新しい野生』) questions blanket judgments about non-native species and considers their effects alongside the environmental changes caused by humans. His more recent book “Despite It All: A Handbook for Climate Hopefuls” (未邦訳) examines examples of ecological recovery and social change while acknowledging the scale of the environmental crisis. It was shortlisted for the 2026 Royal Society Science Book Prize.
