Frances FitzGerald is a journalist and historical writer whose work examines war, religion and American society. She contributed to The New Yorker, The Atlantic and Harper's and served as president of the Society of American Historians. Fire in the Lake approached American intervention through Vietnamese history and culture, investigating the gulf between local experience and American assumptions. It won the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award and Bancroft Prize. America Revised examined changes in school history textbooks and the ways the United States taught its own past. The Evangelicals traced religious revival movements and the development of evangelical Christianity, examining how distinct traditions of belief became connected with political mobilization. The book won the 2017 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction.
