Hotondoshindeiru is a Japanese manga artist who began the commercial serialization of "Uncle from Another World" in 2018, based on a manga first published online in 2017. The series follows an unnamed uncle who awakens after a seventeen-year coma and tells his nephew Takafumi that he actually spent those years in the otherworld of Granbahamal, using magic to replay his adventures. Although he acquired extraordinary powers, he was repeatedly mistreated because of his appearance, failed to recognize the affection of several women, and remained obsessively devoted to Sega video games. These memories are interwoven with his new life in Japan, where he lives with Takafumi and attempts to earn money through online videos. By presenting an otherworld adventure as the recollections of a returned traveler, the manga turns his disconnection from changes in gaming, the internet, and family life into comedy; it was also adapted into a television anime.
