Paul Starr（ポール・スター、1949年生まれ）は、アメリカの社会学者、政治学者、作家。プリンストン大学社会学・公共政策学教授。コロンビア大学卒業後、ハーバード大学で社会学博士号（Ph.D.）を取得した。専門は医療社会学、公共政策、メディア、民主主義で、医療制度や情報社会の歴史的発展を分析する研究で国際的に高く評価されている。1982年刊行の『The Social Transformation of American Medicine』は、アメリカ医療制度の形成と医師専門職の発展を歴史的・社会学的に考察した画期的な研究として、1984年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。同書は医療社会学の古典として現在も広く読み継がれている。著書に『The Social Transformation of American Medicine』『The Creation of the Media』『Freedom's Power』などがある。
Paul Starr (born 1949) is an American sociologist, political scientist, and author. He is Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University. After graduating from Columbia University, he earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University. His scholarship focuses on medical sociology, public policy, media, and democracy, and he is widely recognized for his historical analyses of healthcare systems and the development of modern communications. His landmark book The Social Transformation of American Medicine examined the evolution of the American medical profession and healthcare system, earning the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. Considered a classic in medical sociology, the book has had a lasting influence on scholarship and health policy. His other notable works include The Creation of the Media and *Freedom's Power.
