Holly Jackson (born 1992) is a British mystery novelist. She grew up in Buckinghamshire, completed her first attempt at a novel at fifteen, and studied literary linguistics and creative writing at the University of Nottingham, where she earned a master’s degree in English. Her debut, “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” (2019), follows school student Pip as she investigates a local girl’s disappearance and the death of the boyfriend believed to have killed her. Convinced that he was innocent, Pip uses her school research project to interview witnesses and re-examine the evidence. The novel won the Children’s Fiction Book of the Year category at the 2020 British Book Awards, developed into a trilogy, and was adapted for television. Combining interviews, social media and research records, Jackson builds the mystery around the gaps between a community’s accepted version of events and the evidence her young investigator uncovers.
