Rumiko Hoshika (born 1940) is a Japanese music critic and editor. Born in Hokkaido, she joined Shinko Music Publishing in 1961 and became a member of the editorial staff of the popular-music magazine "Music Life." After becoming its editor-in-chief in 1965, she traveled to London and secured the first one-on-one interview with the Beatles by a Japanese journalist, conducted at EMI Studios. She continued reporting on the group during their active years, including their visit to Japan and their final American tour, and helped introduce contemporary rock music to Japanese readers. In her representative work, "Watashi ga Atta Bītoruzu to Rokku Sutā," she recounts her encounters with the Beatles, Elvis Presley, and other musicians while also examining the managers and production staff behind them and the changing music industry, youth culture, and society of the 1960s.
