[Demos](https://www.demos.org/heather-c-mcghee) 著書『The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together』(未邦訳)では、人種差別を一部の人々だけが被る問題ではなく、公共サービスや賃金、教育、環境などを通じて社会全体に損失をもたらす仕組みとして分析している。 [National Book Foundation](https://www.nationalbook.org/people/heather-mcghee/)
Heather McGhee (born 1980) is an American author and public policy expert. She earned a B.A. in American Studies from Yale University and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. From 2014 to 2018, she served as president of Demos, a think tank focused on economic inequality and democracy, where she worked on issues including financial reform, household debt, and racial equity. In *The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together*, McGhee examines racism not only as an injustice inflicted on particular communities but also as a system that weakens public services, wages, education, health, and the environment for society as a whole. Using the history of American towns that closed their public swimming pools rather than integrate them, she exposes the destructive logic of zero-sum thinking—the belief that progress for one racial group must come at another’s expense. In its place, she proposes the idea of a “solidarity dividend”: the shared gains that become possible when people work together across racial divisions.
