Hazel Sheffield is a British business reporter and investigative journalist. After covering derivatives for Euromoney, she served as business editor of The Independent before going freelance in 2016. She then founded Far Nearer, a reporting project documenting self-organizing communities and alternative economic models across the United Kingdom. Her journalism, focusing on local economies, the environment, energy, and community-led change, has appeared in publications including The Guardian and the Financial Times. In her first book, "Frontierlands," Sheffield draws on a decade of reporting to examine communities across Britain that are reclaiming neglected land, buildings, forests, and other local assets. She shows how people are developing new forms of collective ownership and stewardship to rebuild local economies and strengthen communities in the face of climate change and declining public services.
