Benjamin Nathans（ベンジャミン・ネイサンズ、1965年生まれ）は、アメリカの歴史学者。ペンシルベニア大学歴史学部教授。スタンフォード大学卒業後、カリフォルニア大学バークレー校で歴史学博士号（Ph.D.）を取得した。専門はロシア史、ソ連史、ユダヤ史、近代ヨーロッパ史で、とりわけロシア帝国からソビエト連邦に至る政治・社会・知識人の歴史を研究している。2002年刊行の "Beyond the Pale" は、ロシア帝国におけるユダヤ人の歴史を描いた画期的な研究として高く評価され、Vucinich Book PrizeやKoret Jewish Book Awardなどを受賞した。2024年刊行の "To the Success of Our Hopeless Cause: The Many Lives of the Soviet Dissident Movement" は、ソ連反体制運動の歴史を描いた大作として話題を呼び、2025年のPulitzer Prize for General Nonfictionを受賞した。著書に "Beyond the Pale"、"To the Success of Our Hopeless Cause" などがある。
Benjamin Nathans (born 1965) is an American historian and Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from Stanford University, he earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on Russian and Soviet history, Jewish history, and modern European history, with particular emphasis on the political, social, and intellectual history of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. His first book, "Beyond the Pale: The Jewish Encounter with Late Imperial Russia", received widespread acclaim and won several major awards, including the Vucinich Book Prize and the Koret Jewish Book Award. His second major work, "To the Success of Our Hopeless Cause: The Many Lives of the Soviet Dissident Movement", is a landmark study of the Soviet dissident movement and was awarded the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction.
