萩尾望都(はぎお もと、1949–) 日本の漫画家。福岡県生まれ。1969年にデビューし、1970年代には竹宮惠子、大島弓子らとともに「花の24年組」を代表する存在として少女漫画に革新をもたらした。SF、ファンタジー、歴史、心理ドラマなど幅広いジャンルを手がけ、人間の内面や家族、ジェンダー、生命といった普遍的なテーマを繊細な筆致で描き続けている。日本漫画家協会賞大賞、朝日賞、文化功労者、紫綬褒章など数々の栄誉を受け、2019年には文化勲章を受章した。代表作『ポーの一族』は、永遠の命を持つ「バンパネラ」の少年エドガーを主人公に、人間の孤独や愛、喪失を詩情豊かに描いた作品である。少女漫画の表現の可能性を大きく広げた傑作として国内外で高く評価され、日本漫画史を代表する作品の一つに数えられている。
Moto Hagio (1949–) is a Japanese manga artist widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern shōjo manga. Debuting in 1969, she emerged as a leading member of the influential "Year 24 Group," whose innovative works transformed the artistic and thematic possibilities of girls' comics in the 1970s. Her stories span science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, and psychological drama, exploring themes such as identity, family, gender, love, and mortality with exceptional emotional depth. She has received numerous honors, including the Japan Cartoonists Association Award, the Asahi Prize, the Order of Culture, and designation as a Person of Cultural Merit. Her best-known work, "The Poe Clan," tells the story of Edgar, a boy who belongs to an immortal race of vampire-like beings known as the Banpire. Widely acclaimed for its lyrical storytelling and psychological sophistication, the series is considered one of the defining masterpieces of Japanese manga.
