バレリア・ルイセリ（1983年–）は、メキシコシティ生まれの小説家、エッセイスト。外交官の家庭に育ち、韓国、南アフリカ、インドなどで暮らした経験を持ち、スペイン語と英語の双方で、移動、記憶、言語、国境をめぐる作品を発表している。中南米からアメリカへ渡った子どもたちの法的手続きを支援する通訳活動に携わり、その経験を『Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions』（未邦訳）と小説『Lost Children Archive』（未邦訳）に結実させた。工場労働者との共同作業から生まれた『俺の歯の話』（The Story of My Teeth）では、競売人の奇想に満ちた人生を通して、物語と価値のつくられ方を描いている。『Lost Children Archive』は国際ダブリン文学賞を受賞し、2019年にはマッカーサー・フェローに選出された。『Beginning Middle End』（未邦訳）は、離婚後にシチリア島を旅する母娘を軸に、母娘三代の記憶、喪失、再出発を音や神話と結びつけた小説で、2026年全米図書賞小説部門のロングリストに選ばれた。
Valeria Luiselli (born 1983) is a Mexican novelist and essayist who writes in both Spanish and English. Born in Mexico City and raised partly in South Korea, South Africa, and India, she frequently explores movement, memory, language, and borders. Her work as a volunteer interpreter for undocumented Central American children navigating the US immigration system informed “Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in Forty Questions” and the novel “Lost Children Archive.” Developed in collaboration with factory workers, “The Story of My Teeth” uses the adventures of an eccentric auctioneer to examine how stories create value. “Lost Children Archive” won the International Dublin Literary Award, and Luiselli was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2019. Her novel “Beginning Middle End,” about a mother and daughter traveling through Sicily after a divorce, connects three generations of women through memory, loss, myth, sound, and the possibility of beginning again. It was longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Fiction.
