ハワード・マーケル（Howard Markel、1960–）は、アメリカの医師、医学史家。ミシガン大学医学部教授を務め、医学史、公衆衛生、感染症の歴史を専門としている。医学と社会の関係を歴史的な視点から研究し、感染症対策や医療制度、著名な医学者の生涯などをテーマに幅広く執筆している。代表作『The Secret of Life』では、ノーベル賞受賞者ジェームズ・ワトソンらによるDNA二重らせん構造の発見をめぐる競争と、その科学的・歴史的意義を克明に描いている。
Howard Markel (1960–) is an American physician and medical historian. A professor at the University of Michigan Medical School, his research focuses on the history of medicine, public health, and infectious diseases. Through his scholarship and writing, he examines the historical relationship between medicine and society, covering topics ranging from epidemics and public health policy to the lives of influential scientists and physicians. His best-known book, "The Secret of Life", recounts the race to discover the structure of DNA, placing one of the twentieth century's greatest scientific breakthroughs in its historical and human context.
