ハーバート・ビックス（Herbert P. Bix）- 米：歴史家、ニューヨーク州立大学ビンガムトン校名誉教授

Herbert P. Bix（ハーバート・P・ビックス、1938年生まれ）は、アメリカの歴史学者。近現代日本史、日本帝国史を専門とし、昭和天皇や日本の戦争責任をめぐる研究の第一人者として知られる。マサチューセッツ大学アマースト校卒業後、アメリカ海軍予備役として日本に赴任し、その後ハーバード大学で歴史学博士号（Ph.D.）を取得した。一橋大学やニューヨーク州立大学ビンガムトン校などで教鞭を執り、日米双方の史料を駆使した実証的研究で国際的に高い評価を受けている。2000年刊行の『Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan』は、昭和天皇の生涯と戦時下における役割を再検証した画期的な評伝として、2001年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門および全米批評家協会賞を受賞した。著書に『Peasant Protest in Japan, 1590–1884』『Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan』などがある。 Wikipedia ↗

Herbert P. Bix (born 1938) is an American historian specializing in modern Japanese history and imperialism. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve in Japan, he earned his Ph.D. in History and Far Eastern Languages from Harvard University. He has taught at institutions including Hitotsubashi University and Binghamton University, and is widely recognized for his scholarship on Emperor Hirohito, the Japanese Empire, and the history of modern Japan. His landmark biography, "Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan," challenged conventional interpretations of Emperor Hirohito's role in World War II and won both the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
