Chie Hanada is a Japanese translator of English-language nonfiction on history, economics, and society. “Atlas of Finance” uses maps and infographics to examine financial centers and the movement of money across space. John Haywood’s “Ocean” follows voyages and exchanges before Columbus, approaching the Atlantic as a medium of connection as well as separation. Philip Coggan’s “More” surveys changes in trade, labor, and finance over a long span of human history. Through these works, Hanada introduces accounts that connect geographical perspectives with historical explanation. Her translations consider the networks and institutions that have helped shape the world people inhabit today.
