Reiji Hagiwara is a Japanese manga artist who made his debut in 1986 with "KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT" in a special issue of "Shōnen Sunday." Alongside his original works, he has produced manga adaptations of science fiction, supernatural fiction, and accounts of purportedly true ghost stories, as well as military-themed works involving tanks and naval vessels. His representative series, "Kantai no Shefu," written by Kunihiko Ikeda, is set aboard the fictional destroyer Kōfū during the Pacific War. By following the cooks who prepare meals in a swaying galley with limited ingredients, the series depicts the procurement, cooking, and logistical work required to sustain sailors behind the scenes of combat.
