Banu Mushtaq（バヌ・ムシュタク、1948年生まれ）は、インドの作家、弁護士、社会活動家。南インド・カルナータカ州出身で、カンナダ語で創作活動を行う。1970年代から社会的不公正や女性の権利をテーマとする文学運動「バンダヤ（抵抗）文学」の中心的な作家の一人として活躍し、イスラム教徒の女性や社会的弱者の視点から、家父長制やカースト、宗教的偏見の中で生きる人々の日常を描いてきた。短編集 "Heart Lamp"（英訳：Deepa Bhasthi）は、2025年にInternational Booker Prizeを受賞し、カンナダ語作品として初、また短編集として初めて同賞を受賞した作品となった。著書に"Haseena and Other Stories"、"Heart Lamp"などがある。
Banu Mushtaq (born 1948) is an Indian writer, lawyer, and activist who writes in Kannada. Based in the southern state of Karnataka, she emerged from the Bandaya ("protest") literary movement of the 1970s and 1980s, using fiction to explore the lives of Muslim women and other marginalized communities. Her work addresses themes of gender, caste, religion, and social justice with empathy, moral clarity, and literary power. Her short story collection "Heart Lamp," translated into English by Deepa Bhasthi, won the International Booker Prize in 2025, becoming the first Kannada-language work and the first short story collection ever to receive the award. Her other notable works include "Haseena and Other Stories" and several collections of short fiction, essays, and poetry.
