円城塔(えんじょう・とう、1972年生まれ)は、日本の小説家。東京大学理学部物理学科卒業、同大学大学院総合文化研究科博士課程修了。博士(学術)。北海道大学で物理学を教えた後、作家としてデビューした。物理学や数学、言語学、哲学などの知見を取り入れた実験的な作風で知られ、現代日本文学を代表する作家の一人として高く評価されている。『道化師の蝶』で芥川龍之介賞、『文字渦』で川端康成文学賞を受賞。国際的にも広く読まれ、英訳版 "The Factory"(共訳)や "Self-Reference ENGINE" などが高い評価を受けている。著書に『オブ・ザ・ベースボール』『これはペンです』『プロローグ』『コード・ブッダ』などがある。

Toh EnJoe (born 1972) is a Japanese novelist renowned for his intellectually ambitious and experimental fiction. After studying physics at the University of Tokyo and earning a doctorate in interdisciplinary studies, he taught physics at Hokkaido University before turning to writing. His works combine ideas from physics, mathematics, linguistics, philosophy, and literary theory, pushing the boundaries of contemporary fiction through intricate structures and playful language. He won the Akutagawa Prize for "Dōkeshi no Chō" ("Harlequin's Butterfly") and the Kawabata Yasunari Prize for "Moji-uzu" ("Whirlpool of Characters").
