Erika Krouse (born 1969) is an American fiction writer who spent her middle and high school years in Japan. Alongside short stories and a novel, she has published a memoir drawn from her work as a private investigator. Her first collection, “Come Up and See Me Sometime,” follows young women moving from place to place as they navigate relationships, work, and questions about how to live; it won the Paterson Fiction Prize. In “Tell Me Everything: The Story of a Private Investigation,” she recounts searching for witnesses to a sexual assault involving university football players and examining the culture surrounding the team. The investigation also forces her to confront her own past. The memoir won the 2023 Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime. Her collection “Save Me, Stranger” includes stories about a woman deciding whether to leave a bitterly cold town and people facing painful choices about helping those they love. It won the 2026 Joyce Carol Oates Prize.
