Eric Ries (born 1978) is an American entrepreneur and management thinker. Drawing on his experience as cofounder and chief technology officer of the online-services company IMVU, he developed the Lean Startup methodology, which replaces long periods of product development with early releases, measurement of customer behavior, and repeated testing of business assumptions. He later served as an entrepreneur-in-residence at institutions including Harvard Business School and founded the Long-Term Stock Exchange to support companies committed to long-term value creation. His representative work, “The Lean Startup: How Today’s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses,” systematizes concepts including the build-measure-learn cycle, the minimum viable product, validated learning, and the pivot, providing a process for discovering what customers need while limiting wasted time and capital in uncertain markets.
