エリザベス・ストラウト（Elizabeth Strout、1956年 - ）は、アメリカの小説家。メイン州ポートランドに生まれ、メイン州とニューハンプシャー州の小さな町で育った。1998年に『Amy and Isabelle』（未邦訳）で長編デビューし、家族や夫婦、親子、隣人など身近な人々の関係を通して、地方の町で暮らす人々の孤独や葛藤、人生の変化を描いてきた。代表作『オリーヴ・キタリッジの生活』（原題 Olive Kitteridge）は2009年ピュリッツァー賞小説部門を受賞。メイン州の架空の港町クロズビーを舞台に、率直で気難しい元教師オリーヴ・キタリッジと町の人々をめぐる13の物語を連作形式で描いている。夫との長い結婚生活、息子とのすれ違い、老い、病、死などに直面するなかで、自分では気づかなかった他者への傷つけ方や、自身の孤独をオリーヴが少しずつ理解していく姿を描いた作品である。
Elizabeth Strout (born 1956) is an American novelist from Maine. Born in Portland and raised in small towns in Maine and New Hampshire, she has drawn extensively on the landscapes and communities of northern New England in her fiction. She made her novel debut with "Amy and Isabelle" in 1998 and has continued to explore marriages, families, parent-child relationships, and the private struggles of people living in small communities. Her representative work, "Olive Kitteridge," won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Set in the fictional coastal town of Crosby, Maine, its thirteen interconnected stories follow the blunt and often difficult retired schoolteacher Olive Kitteridge and the people whose lives intersect with hers. As Olive confronts a changing marriage, tensions with her son, aging, illness, and death, she gradually comes to recognize both the loneliness of those around her and the ways in which her own behavior has shaped her relationships.
