Edward Dolnick is an American journalist and former chief science writer at The Boston Globe. His nonfiction books recount episodes in art, archaeology, and the history of science. “The Rescue Artist” follows the investigation into the theft of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” from a museum in Oslo, focusing on the Scotland Yard detectives who set out to recover it. The book won an Edgar Award. “The Writing of the Gods” tells the story of the British and French scholars who pursued different approaches to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs after the discovery of the Rosetta Stone. In “Dinosaurs at the Dinner Party,” Dolnick follows fossil hunters and scientists, including Mary Anning, as their discoveries led people to recognize that giant creatures had once lived on Earth and become extinct.
