Taiko Eguchi is a Japanese translator of nonfiction on economics, society, politics, and technology. In Angus Deaton’s “Economics in America,” she introduces a reconsideration of inequality and the role economists play in understanding and shaping society. Marietje Schaake’s “The Tech Coup” examines the power of large technology companies and the challenge of bringing that power under democratic control. Her translations of books on Pegasus spyware and cyberwarfare explore the relationships between digital systems, surveillance, and security. Peter McGraw’s “Solo” turns to personal life, questioning the assumption that marriage or partnership must organize everyone’s future. Her work connects institutional questions with the choices and experiences of individuals.
