Ryo Akagami (born 1972) is a Japanese novelist, legal scholar, and attorney. A specialist in environmental and administrative law, he teaches at a private university while writing historical fiction. He made his literary debut in 2017 after winning the Nikkei Novel Award for "Otomo Nikai Kuzure" (originally titled "Gi to Ai to"). Known for combining meticulous historical research with compelling human drama, he received the Oyabu Haruhiko Award for his novel "Hagure Garasu." Set in the former Taketa Domain of Bungo Province, the novel follows a tale of vengeance, buried secrets, and family bonds, bringing the turbulent world of the late Edo period vividly to life.
