Kiyohiko Azuma (born 1968) is a Japanese manga artist from Hyogo Prefecture. After working on dōjinshi, video-game illustrations, and anthology comics, he became widely known for the four-panel comedy “Azumanga Daioh,” which began serialization in 1999. His representative work, “Yotsuba&!,” follows the daily life of Yotsuba Koiwai, an inquisitive five-year-old girl who lives with her adoptive father and regularly visits the neighboring Ayase family. Moving house, shopping, catching insects, playing in the rain, and going camping become stories through Yotsuba’s misunderstandings and impulsive experiments. The series received an Excellence Award in the Manga Division of the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2006 and the Manga Grand Prize at the 20th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2016.
