Erving Goffman (1922–1982) was a Canadian-born sociologist whose work transformed the study of everyday social interaction. Influenced by the Chicago School, he developed influential concepts such as self-presentation and social roles, using a dramaturgical approach to explain how people manage their identities in different social settings. His best-known book, "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life," examines how individuals perform different roles in everyday interactions, employing the metaphor of the theater to illuminate the dynamics of social life.
