Ernest Hemingway（アーネスト・ヘミングウェイ、1899–1961）は、アメリカの小説家、ジャーナリスト。20世紀を代表する作家の一人であり、簡潔で力強い文体と「氷山理論」と呼ばれる独自の表現手法で世界文学に大きな影響を与えた。第一次世界大戦では救護活動に従事し、その後も従軍記者としてスペイン内戦や第二次世界大戦を取材するなど、多彩な経験を作品に反映させた。人間の勇気、孤独、喪失、尊厳を描いた作品で高く評価され、1953年に『老人と海』でPulitzer Prize for Fictionを受賞、翌1954年にはノーベル文学賞を受賞した。現代文学の発展に多大な影響を与えた作家として、今なお世界中で読み継がれている。
Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961) was an American novelist and journalist, widely regarded as one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. Renowned for his concise, understated prose and the literary technique known as the "iceberg theory," Hemingway profoundly shaped modern fiction. His experiences as an ambulance driver during the First World War and later as a war correspondent covering the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War informed much of his writing. Celebrated for his exploration of courage, loss, solitude, and human dignity, he received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature the following year. His works continue to be read worldwide and remain central to the canon of modern literature.
