アーサー・コナン・ドイル（Arthur Conan Doyle、1859–1930） イギリスの小説家、医師。スコットランドのエディンバラに生まれ、エディンバラ大学で医学を学んだのち、医師として診療するかたわら小説を執筆した。鋭い観察力と論理的な推理によって事件を解決する名探偵シャーロック・ホームズを生み出し、推理小説の発展に大きな影響を与えた。代表作『緋色の研究』（原題 "A Study in Scarlet"）はホームズと医師ジョン・ワトスンが初めて出会うシリーズ第1作で、ロンドンで起きた不可解な殺人事件を二人が追う物語から、事件の背景にあるアメリカでの過去と復讐へと展開していく。
